“You are a guest at an upscale Casino’s annual grand masquerade ball. All the guests have gathered at the Black Jack table to try their luck. In the midst of all the excitement Mr. A wins a huge amount of money and everyone joins in cheering for him. But there is more in store for the night, a gun shot is heard and then the murder mystery begins”…..
Well, this is not the scene from any drama friends but this was the theme we had for last years Halloween bash at my place. And believe me, guests were left wanting for more! It was such a fun event. I had been contemplating on the theme for quite some time and as always the thought came to me last minute. So I tried to put this together at a very short notice and kept it budget friendly. Did take some effort but was worth it.
If you have any plans of hosting a theme party in future you should definitely try this fun theme. This theme can not only be used for Halloween but also for any occasion. In India we have a custom of playing card games on Diwali, this can be a great time to go with this theme too!
The invitation cards prepared by my daughter did set the mood for the party and kept the guest’s interest and curiosity levels high. As mentioned in the instructions on the invite each guest was asked to dress up in a character and remain in their character all through out the party. And I would say they were such a sporting bunch they really got into the game as the evening progressed. Just to give you an idea we had people dressed up as Detective, Egyptian lady, Devil, underworld Don, business women and many more….
The invite pretty much explained the game to the guests so they could plan accordingly and also understand how the night would progress!
My hubs and I played the owners of the Casino, I would definitely give credit to my dear hubby for keeping the guests involved in the game and bring their attention back to the game if at any point they would begin to stray. So it is important for you to appoint someone in the party who makes sure to keep the game going. It sometimes is easy to lose track with people having so much fun 🙂
We loved posing as the couple who owned the Casino! well if not in real life at least Halloween gives you a chance to be anyone whom you would love to have been, even though it is just for a night… 🙂
This is how I decorated based on the theme, using all dollar store items! Good news is that you don’t have to break your bank for planning this fun event.
This is how my Casino looked 🙂 You see simple but fun! The most time taking part was the lighted Casino board I made myself. I cut out letters out of cardboards and covered them with black bristol board. Then used my christmas fairy light string to run it over the letters.
Using a lot of dice and cards we succeded in creating the drama. Of course the music also plays an important part for setting the mood of suspense and thrill, so make sure to keep your playlist set out.
Just to preserve the privacy of my guests I will not be sharing their pictures on the blog but let me tell you each one of them were looking stunning and we could see so much creativity in the costumes they turned out in!
So you see this was not a very difficult event to plan. Hope I have been able to give you some helpful ideas of how to plan your next event based on Murder Mystery theme. Ours eventually became a comedy murder mystery which each one of us enjoyed thoroughly. The compliment I got from my guests the next day was their stomach hurt from the laughter…lol.
So friends, if you liked this post do leave your comments and suggestions. If you do decide to host this event let me know how it went!
Here’s me signing off, wishing you lots of love, laughter and fun, Have a Happy Halloween, and to my Indian friends Happy Diwali!! Stay safe and have fun!
