In quest of brightening up our garden with some color and style we came across this beautiful shop called Grasshopper Imports Inc . Nestled in a quiet town of Flamborough, this local shop has its own charm. The striking wall pattern on the outside of the store always made me wonder what the inside would have in store. So we finally decided to make a stop here on a bright sunny morning. As expected this place did not fail to amaze us with its vast collection of pottery and clay products. And you know how a bloggers life rolls…. the camera was out and we were in action! (I was not carrying my DSLR so made do with the iPhone).
I also had a chance to meet Grasshoppers proud owner Angie Betts. Angie is a charming lady who warmly welcomes her customers with a lovely smile. We hit the right note together instantly and got chatting. Angie proudly mentioned that they have been in business for 25 years now. The Grasshopper story began at concerts, flea markets, colleges, beaches and festivals. Very soon they had out grown the garage. This shows how popular this store has been, surviving in the tough economy has not been easy for many local businesses. As per Angie, they take pride in the fact that they work directly with the artisans world wide from countries like Mexico, Thailand, India, Nepal etc and bring these unique items to their customers
Here is the beautiful wall – a kaleidoscope of color, you cannot overlook this. It has become a landmark because of its vibrance! I am sure it enjoys several swooning glances and stares from all passerby. ( And my little poser loved to pose against this pretty wall).
The pottery store is called La Casa Del Sol, and as the name suggests, a house full of sun , with peppy music playing we got a feel of being in a Mexican market right here in our own Canada 🙂
The range of items in the beautifully spread out open space is vast. You can find everything to make your garden the source of neighbourhoods envy 😉
Don’t be surprised if you end up in a “decision-decision” dilemma, there are so many choices that it is hard to choose.
They also have a boutique of some very cool and unique items beautifully displayed, which remains open all year round.
Here’s Angie showing us around, talking about how they have sourced all these items and how she finds pleasure in connecting various parts of the globe through her local business. They now also have an online store which customers can take advantage of.
And since we were having so much fun shopping and exploring around I thought why not get some photography skills going… lights…camera and action!! 😉
Well signing off now! hoping to be back sooner than last time 😉
